Pre-AP & AP Summer Institute Set for August

posted Jun 16, 2008, 12:40 PM by HSS PTSA Webmaster   [ updated Jun 16, 2008, 12:43 PM ]
Hayfield Secondary School will be again be offering a summer institute for high school students (including rising ninth-grade students) who are enrolled in one or more pre-advanced placement (AP) and/or AP classes during the 2008 – 2009 school year.  The Pre-AP/AP Summer Institute is scheduled for August 18-21, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. each evening. Please note that the Institute will now be held in August, instead of early July, so students will have less time between the end of the Institute and the start of the school year, allowing greater retention of skills learned at the Institute.  Despite recent budget cuts, the Institute is still free-of-charge.

The Institute will provide an opportunity for students to review and learn specific skills necessary for success in these upper-level academic classes. The first two evenings will focus on pre-AP and AP social studies and English classes while the second two evenings will focus on pre-AP/AP science and math classes. All sessions will be presented by pre-AP and AP teachers.  The first evening a student attends, he/she will be provided with a folder and with any necessary materials. In addition, a snack will be served each evening.

If you have any questions, please email Sue Duncan, AP Coordinator, at sue.duncan@fcps.edu. To enroll, please complete and return the application.  Students will be enrolled on a first-come, first-served basis since seating is limited.  Once a student’s application has been processed, a confirmation e-mail will be sent.

The application and the schedule of classes can be found by visiting the HSS home page, or directly at www.fcps.edu/HayfieldSS/index/summerinstituteaug21.doc
