The next Parents for Safe Teen Driving (PSTD) meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, November 9 in the Hayfield Secondary auditorium from 7-9 p.m. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., and please note that both the parent/guardian and student are asked to be present for this meeting. Parents are also reminded about the following information regarding Virginia's Parent and Teen Traffic Safety Program:

The Code of Virginia requires students enrolled in a classroom driver education course and their parent or guardian to complete a 90-minute Virginia Department of Education (VDOE)-approved parent and teen traffic safety program, in addition to the required 30 clock hours of classroom instruction. Students will not receive a Driver Education Certification of Completion (DEC-1 card) until both of these statutory requirements have been satisfied. The foregoing applies to any student participating in grade 10 health and physical education during the regular school year, as well as students enrolled in an Adult and Community Education (ACE) classroom driver education course.

The parent and teen traffic safety program is available to eligible students who are enrolled in an FCPS grade 10 health and physical education course, or to students who are registered for, and participating in, the ACE classroom driver education course on a fee basis. The parent and teen traffic safety program will be offered at all traditional high schools once each quarter of the school year and as appropriate at alternative high school sites and ACE sites. A separate fee will not be charged for the parent and teen traffic safety program for any student concurrently enrolled in FCPS grade 10 health and physical education course in a regular or alternative high school. Fees will be assessed for students enrolled in ACE classroom driver education as allowed by VDOE.
