Are you a student leader? Are you part of a youth group? Do you want to make a difference in your community? If you answered “yes,” then this program is for you! Volunteer Fairfax is sponsoring a unique opportunity for students who display leadership qualities to assist with the coordination and implementation of Fairfax County’s first annual Global Youth Service Day 2011, on Saturday, April 16, 2011. Global Youth Service Day is an annual campaign that celebrates and mobilizes the millions of children and youth who improve their communities each day of the year through service and service-learning. Established in 1988, Global Youth Service Day is the largest service event in the world and is now celebrated in over 100 countries. On Global Youth Service Day, children and youth address the world’s most critical issues in partnership with families, schools, community and faith-based organizations, businesses, and governments. The Youth Advisory Board for Global Youth Service Day 2011, sponsored by Volunteer Fairfax, is a unique opportunity for high school students who display leadership qualities to attend six planning meetings filled with dynamic activities that will teach them how to become forces of positive change in their community by working together to coordinate Fairfax County’s first Global Youth Service Day. Participation on the Youth Advisory Board will teach youth a broad array of leadership skills that can be applied to any life experience using a state-of-the art curriculum that includes both classroom instruction and experiential training. The deadline to submit applications is October 22. To learn more about this institute, please read the attached application.
